The Lady Comets were dominant in their basketball game against East Meadow Jan. 8 at Hicksville High School, rolling to a 63-35 win over their conference foe. Their three main players, seniors Natece Willis and Jillian Wynne and junior Atalah Eady helped lead the team to a decisive victory, giving them a 3-3 conference record.
“Our three main scores got off to a fast start and really helped us get the win,” said Hicksville coach Frank Locascio. “We also had a solid game from our point guard and defensive stopper, Sabrina Adamo, who used her athleticism on both ends of the floor.”
The game was never in doubt as the Lady Comets jumped out to a 19-5 first quarter lead thanks to the three point shooting prowess of Wynne. The senior point guard hit some timely shots and expertly maneuvered the ball to her teammates in the paint.
Eady and Willis used their big frames to seal out the East Meadow players down low and collected multiple rebounds which led to easy layups.
Hicksville took a commanding 32-16 lead at halftime and kept up the pace in the third and fourth quarters scoring 31 more points to earn the victory.
Locascio said that his team has a goal of making it back to the playoffs after losing to Herricks in the first round last year.
“We’re a relatively young team with two freshman and a sophomore on the roster but I think we’re capable of getting back to where we were last year,” he said.
He added that if his team does make it that they earn their first playoff game on their home court.
“We had a tough loss to Port Washington earlier in the season but I believe if we stay the course and continue winning games we’ll be okay.”
Hicksville is 5-5 and 3-3 in their conference in third place behind an undefeated Baldwin team and a two loss Oceanside team.
The team has a home game Friday, Jan. 16 at 4:45 p.m. against Port Washington and an away game on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. against Baldwin.
