Long Island is home to more than half of a million veterans and there is no shortage of services available to these aging heroes. Here are some contacts for regional, county and township veterans service agencies.

Town Of Oyster Bay
The Oyster Bay Town Veterans Advisory Council (TVAC) was formed to focus on a range of veterans issues and establish a network of communication between the veteran community throughout the township. The council also works on methods to resolve individual concerns and assist veterans with matters under town jurisdiction. The council comprises representatives from various veterans’ organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of the Vietnam War, Korean War Veterans of Nassau County, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans of Nassau County, Amvets, the Marine Corps League, Catholic War Veterans, American Merchant Marine and U.S. Navy Waves National. TVAC can be reached at 516-797-7875.

The men and women of our armed forces have proudly served our country, making a tremendous contribution to American society. The Town of Hempstead has a benefits counselor on staff to assist veterans and their families file claims for veterans’ benefits. The town offers veterans discounts at most town park facilities and on recreational programs. The town participates in a real property tax exemption program and offers free pet adoptions for veterans who wish to adopt a companion from the town’s animal shelter.
